Volunteering the Right Way

Volunteering for ADDA can help you find new friends, reach out to a community where you feel right at home, learn new skills in a stress-free environment and even advance your career.  Volunteering even improves your mental and physical health!  (And who among us doesn’t need some of that!?)

For many adults living with ADHD, life can be a lonely, seemingly-endless struggle.  You can battle that loneliness by volunteering with ADDA.  Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better for everyone, but volunteering also offers an excellent return on investment.  It can benefit you and your family as much as it benefits ADDA.  Committing your time as a volunteer helps you make new friends, expand your network and boost your social skills.

We’re looking for writers, editors, PR and marketing experts, attorneys, financial planners, fundraisers, ADHD professionals and anyone else interested in working on a specific task or becoming an active member of one of our committees.

Liberate Your Inner Wallflower

Some people are naturally outgoing.  They strike up conversations easily, making friends wherever they go.  Others are shy and have a hard time meeting new people.  Adults with ADHD often feel intimidated in social situations (possibly from numerous experiences shoving first one foot and then the other into our mouths!)  Volunteering at ADDA gives you the opportunity to practice and develop your social skills with a group of people who’ll accept you just as you are.  Build that momentum and it’ll carry over into the rest of your life, making it easier to connect with more friends and contacts.

Volunteering with ADDA will boost your self-confidence, self-esteem and overall satisfaction.  We want you to work with your strengths and experience success.  When you are helping others and making things better for your community, you enjoy a natural sense of accomplishment.  And the better you feel about yourself, the better you feel about your life, your future goals and your ability to realize your dreams.

Do What You Love

Volunteering for ADDA is a fun and easy way to explore your interests and passions.  Volunteering can be a relaxing, energizing escape from your daily routine of work, school, or family commitments.  Volunteering also renews your creativity, motivation and vision, which will carry over into your personal and professional life.

You will have a richer and more enjoyable volunteering experience if you work with your strengths and pursue your passions.  (Of course, if you don’t know what your strengths and passions are, volunteering is a great way to discover them!)  What you would enjoy doing, or what would you like to try?

Opportunities for Growth

When you volunteer with ADDA, you can start small if you prefer, but there’s plenty of room for growth too.  Serving on a committee allows you to explore new areas and test your skills safely, but serving on committees also prepares you for greater responsibility, such as leading a project, chairing a committee or joining the ADDA Board of Directors.

Enjoy Yourself

Most importantly, make sure you’re having fun! The best volunteer experiences benefit both the volunteer and the organization.

ADDA is Currently Recruiting Volunteers for the Following Positions

ADDA Workplace Committee Needs a PowerPoint Wiz

The ADDA Workplace Committee has developed a presentation that will be offered to companies and organizations nationally and internationally.  The content is fantastic, but the “container” leaves something to be desired.  ADDA is looking for a volunteer graphic artist or designer who can develop a PowerPoint template that conforms to ADDA’s new design and logo (developed in celebration of ADDA’s 25th Anniversary!)

ADDA Conference Business Development

In honor of ADDA’s 25th Anniversary, ADDA is holding its biggest and best Conference ever this summer (July 23-27, 2014) in Orlando, Florida.  ADDA needs help reaching professionals, organizations and businesses to spread the work about opportunities to sponsor, advertise or exhibit at the ADDA Conference.  The ADDA Conference is an opportunity for them to reach a highly-targeted market of adults with ADHD, and we need your help to make sure everyone who wants to reach our market has the chance to do so.

ADDA eNEws Writers

The ADDA eNews is always looking for writers for the newsletter.  Articles typically run between 800 and 1,200 words, and focus on issues adults with ADHD face.  We aim to provide concrete, actionable solutions to common problems.  You’ll work with an experienced editor who excels at making you look good.

ADDA Development and Fund Raising

ADDA is seeking a leader in developing new and recurring sources of funding including grants, sponsorships, donations and more.  For ADDA to continue its essential work, we must develop a sustainable model of revenue and income generation, and we need a person with experience in non-profit fundraising to head the Development Committee.

ADDA Public Policy Commitee

The ADDA Public Policy committee is seeking a leader to help continue and build ADDA’s efforts to promote and defend the needs of adults with ADHD in the halls of government.  If you have an interest in public policy, the inner workings of government and grass-roots advocacy, we want your help.

ADDA College Commitee

The ADDA college committee is seeking members with expertise in working with young adults at the college or university level, or with younger students (15 years and older) preparing for the transition from high school to post-secondary studies.  If you’d like to help ADDA reach and help more young adults learning to succeed on their own, we want your help.

If any of the above positions as a volunteer at ADDA appeal to you, please complete the complete our online form or download a volunteer application form. An ADDA board member or committee chair will contact you to make sure we match you with the right task and committee based on your interests and expertise.  If you want to do SOMETHING to help ADDA but you’re not sure any of these positions is up your alley, please complete the Volunteer Form you answered yes to any of those questions, you are just the person we’re looking for!  Whether you want to test the waters by taking on just one job or you love to look at the big picture and plan strategically for the long haul, ADDA has a place for you.
